The Apprentice School Celebrates its Centennial with Gala & July 1, 2019 Events

The Apprentice School held its Centennial Celebration Gala event at the Marriott at City Center on Saturday, June 29, 2019 with over 350 guests in attendance. Remarks were provided by Jennifer Boykin, President, NNS, Congressman Bobby Scott and Director of Education Dr. Latitia McCane. The Apprentice School Foundation sponsored the Memorabilia displays and presented the school with a framed original Executive Order #24 issued July 1, 1919 by Homer L. Ferguson, President and General Manager of Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company. The Foundation and the Apprentice Alumni Association co-sponsored a Virginia Historic Marker that was unveiled at a Monday, July 1, 2019 event in front of 340 alumni, faculty, staff, apprentices and friends of the school. The Virginia Historic Marker was officially installed in front of the school on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.
