The Foundation was established to offer a tax deductible avenue for community partners, friends of The Apprentice School, and alumni to help fund scholarships, historic preservation and community service projects that carry on the legacy of The Apprentice School. There have been over 10,000 graduates of the school with many of them serving as the cornerstone of leadership in Hampton Roads communities and businesses. In addition to scholarships, The Foundation focuses on the underrepresented and financially constrained youth of the Hampton Roads Region and supports such organizations as the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Peninsula and Southside Virginia, the Achievable Dream Academy and the Apprentice School Students Association. The Foundation also does outreach to communities through organizations such as the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.

“I grew up on a farm in North Carolina and moved to Newport News in 1963 to attend The Apprentice School. With $20 in my pocket and a few clothes in a suitcase I made a go of it. It sure would have been nice to have some help to get started.”
““The Apprentice School Alumni Association is a solid member of the Peninsula community and all of Hampton Roads”. ”
“The legacy of The Apprentice School is well documented in the shipbuilding industry for its world class training and education. Its alumni are recognized as contributors in their respective communities.”
